BUZZARDS BAY — With the 2015 collegiate women’s soccer season just around the corner, Massachusetts Maritime Academy women’s soccer Head Coach Ray Cabral announced his captains this week for the Buccaneers.
The Mass. Maritime women open the season on September 2 against Becker College.
Captains for the Buccaneers this fall will be senior all-conference and all-New England goalkeeper Katie Levesque (Wilmot, N.H./Kearsarge Regional), along with juniors Aoife Callinan (West Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) and Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Bourne), will assume the mantle of leadership this fall as Massachusetts Maritime battles a rigorous 16-match slate.
A two-year team captain, Levesque is a three-time all-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference selection and has earned spots on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America all-New England Regional team in each of the last two seasons. She holds every goalkeeping record in program history, and last year Katie posted three shutout victories while making 151 saves in 1,423 minutes of action in net. Callinan started in all 16 contests in 2014 and collected three goals and an assist for seven points from the midfield spot, while Carpenter has been a steady performer on the defensive side for the Buccaneers, having started in all 16 matches last season and in 27 of 30 contests played during her career.
“All three of our captains have played key roles in the growth of our program throughout their careers, and I look forward to that continuing this season,” Cabral, who is in his fifth season as Massachusetts Maritime’s mentor, says of
his leadership trio. “The success that they have earned has come through hard work and dedication, and those qualities are the foundation on which this program has been built.”
Cabral’s crew hosts Becker in its 2015 lid-lifter on Wednesday, September 2nd at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
