LEXINGTON – The Div. 1 South Sectional champion Barnstable High School boys’ tennis team (20-1) and Div. 3 South Sectional champion Martha’s Vineyard girls (20-0) will have to wait another day to rally for a state title.
Both matches have been postponed to tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16.
Barnstable will face MIAA North Sectional champion Acton-Boxborough (19-0) at 3:30 pm tomorrow at Lexington High School. If Barnstable wins, the Red Raiders will face either Westboro or Longmeadow on Thursday, June 18 at 2:30 pm at St. John’s (Shrewsbury).
Martha’s Vineyard (20-0) will face Div. 3 North Sectional champion Lynnfield (20-0) tomorrow (Tuesday) at 3:30 pm, also at Lexington High School.
The Div. 4 South Sectional Baseball Champions, St. John Paul II (23-1), will also play tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16, at Fraser Field in Lynn at 4:00 pm against Div. 4 North Sectional Champion Georgetown (14-8).
Georgetown was seeded 7th in the Division 4 North bracket and came into the postseason at 10-8 and won four straight en route to the north sectional title. St. John Paul II has won three straight sectional titles and is looking to repeat as the Div. 4 State champion.
Should St. John Paul II win tomorrow – with, in all likelihood, ace Joe Oriola going on the mound tomorrow – it will face either Hopedale or Smith on Saturday, June 20 at Holy Cross for the state championship title.
