ORLEANS — The Nauset Regional High School girls’ tennis team perfected its regular-season slate Wednesday afternoon, as the Warriors defeated the visiting Sandwich Lady Knights, 5-0, at the Orleans Elementary School.
The Warriors finished Atlantic Coast League play this season at a perfect 8-0 and are 14-3 heading into today’s much-anticipated home match against Martha’s Vineyard.
Senior co-captain Allie Dadoly took number one singles for the Warriors with her victory over Sandwich High’s top singles player Grace Tanguilig, 6-1, 6-3, followed by a win at number two singles form sister Nika Dadoly over Liz Siranosian, 6-4, 6-3. Nauset’s Haley Navarro defeated Laura Murphy at number three singles, 6-0, 6-0.
At number one doubles, Nauset senior co-captains Anna Godshalk and Haley Benz defeated Allison Bryant and Taylor Eccleston, 6-0, 6-0 and Taylor Wilkins and Carlisle Wheeler made it a clean sweep with their win at number two doubles over the Lady Knights’ Abby Hart and Jenna Phillips, 6-1, 6-1.
Moskal Sisters Pace Falmouth Clippers past B-R Trojan Net Girls
Falmouth freshman and number one singles player Julia Moskal sent a message to the visiting Bridgewater-Raynham Trojan tennis girls Wednesday afternoon and it seemed something along the lines of “you had better get used to it.”
Moskal downed Bridgewater-Raynham’s Sadie Antine – a sophomore – 6-0, 6-0, followed by a win from sister Marysia Moskal at number two singles over senior co-captain Haley Wayne, 6-2, 6-1.
Falmouth’s Emily Gedney took a tough loss at number three singles against B-R’s Felicia Brooks after defeating Brooks in the first set, 6-2, then falling 6-4 and 10-5 in the tiebreaker.
Clippers’ number one doubles duo Emily Maness and Kayla Sheehan beat senior co-captain Andrea Rota and Alexia Andrews, 6-1, 6-1. Paige Meade and Lindsey Shea rounded out the Clipper victory when they defeated the Trojans’ Gabrielle Gronin and Kathleen Desmond, 6-2, 6-0.
Falmouth is now 9-6 overall and has won four straight as they head to face the tough Martha’s Vineyard girls in a non-league contest tomorrow (Friday, May 29).
Nauset Boys Narrowly Defeat Host Blue Knights, Gain Postseason Berth
The Nauset Regional High School boys’ tennis team (10-8) wrapped up its regular season Wednesday afternoon with a clutch, collective effort for a 3-2 win over the Sandwich Blue Knights (6-11) and solidified a postseason tournament appearance.
Perhaps the most hotly contested match of the afternoon came at number one singles as Nauset’s Reed Jenkins battled the Blue Knight’s Vincent Tanguilig and fell to Tanguilig, 6-4, before defeating him in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Keenyn Pombo then pulled out a win at number two singles, as he defeated Steve Tanguilig, 6-1, 6-3. Marcus DeFelice notched the win for Sandwich at number three singles, as he defeated Nauset’s Ethan “Big Red” Ladue, 6-3, 6-4.
Sandwich High’s number one singles team comprised of Jake Olsen and James O’Brien defeated Colton Leach and Lane Bohman, 6-2, 6-1, but at number two doubles the Warriors got what they needed for the win from Mike Walsh and Ben Parkington as they beat Matt Peterson and Matt Stergis, 6-4, 6-4.
