The Massachusetts Maritime men’s soccer team will once again be part of “Team Thomas” on Saturday, September 12 at the MitoAction Energy Walk & 5K, which will take place at DCR’s Mother’s Rest in South Boston.
Head Coach Greg Perry’s Buccaneers will support nine-year-old Thomas Schmid of Marshfield, who became their teammate last year through Massachusetts Maritime’s on-going partnership with Team IMPACT. Thomas has mitochondrial disease, which causes debilitating physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities—it is progressive and has no cure. Like Thomas, Buccaneer men’s lacrosse Team IMPACT teammate Teddy McGowan suffers from the same disease, which affects about one in 4,000 people.
Thomas was featured in an August 12 article that appeared in the Marshfield Mariner, and a link to that story, along with the MitoAction Energy Walk press release, appears below. For more information on Thomas’s Team IMPACT draft day last year, please click the “Tom Terrific” link below.
