SOUTH YARMOUTH – Ian Crosby was a veritable assist and point-scoring machine at Allan Carlsen Field Friday night as his seven points paced the host Dolphins past the St. John Paul II Lions in an 11-3 non-league boys’ lacrosse game.
Crosby’s name reverberated throughout the stadium on the loudspeaker system as he poured in five assists and added two goals while teammates Andrew Jamiel and senior Tom Slovak each netted hat-tricks.
Draw controls were definitively in Dennis-Yarmouth’s favor in this well-attended sundown tilt, as the Dolphins made it almost appear systematic in setting up a well-coached and well-devised offensive attack that had St. John Paul II on its heels for a good portion of each of the four quarters.
Still, the Lions were not the least bit shy in making things happen with their own attack as Gil Bach, Devon Harding and Pat Lawson each scored goals for the guests. It was not enough, though, as the Lions only put 13 shots on goal against one of the Cape’s top lacrosse goaltenders in Dolphin Sean McNamara.
Dennis-Yarmouth also received a pair of goals from Jason Finn and one from Matt Mancini while Jamiel tacked on two assists, Finn added three and Jack Fallon had one.
The Dolphins are now 14-4 and boast the top boys’ lacrosse record on the Cape while St. John Paul II – a solid squad – fell to a still respectable 11-8 with the loss.
The Dolphins wrap up their regular season next Thursday at Martha’s Vineyard. The loss was the Lions’ last regular season match-up before awaiting the postseason seedings from the MIAA.
St. John Paul II Laxwomen End Season with Victory over Sturgis West
The Lady Lions (6-11-1) wrapped up their season Friday afternoon with “Senior Day” and an uplifting, 18-9 victory over the Sturgis West Navigators at Sandy Pond.
Ten different Lions scored in this affair with Casey Sullivan leading the way with four markers and an assist, while Olivia Bengston and Mikenzie Carbone both turned in hat tricks. Bengston added an assist.
Sophomore Jess Tierney scored two goals (one assist) and then one goal each was netted by Amanda Gould, Lila Barker, Laurel Peters, Shae Kondratowicz, Brianna Wooten and Maya Patterson. Wooten added an assist as well.
“We were able to control the possessions and get many of our players involved,” head coach Mike Sullivan said. “It was a good finish to the season.”
