COTUIT – Notwithstanding its beleaguered pitching staff, the Sturgis East baseball team (9-7) plated 33 runs in two games Saturday afternoon at Lowell Park to take a doubleheader sweep from the visiting South Shore Christian Academy, 15-5 and 18-2.
Josh Nowoichik notched his first career varsity win for The Storm in game one of the doubleheader, while Caleb Clarkson did the exact same thing in game two.
“They threw strikes all day,” said Storm head coach John Havey. “Our tired arms forced the call up of these two players and they both responded. I couldn’t be prouder of both boys. They really stepped up for us.”
Storm freshman Thomas Harris also got the call-up from the jayvee squad and recordd his first career varsity hit.
Joey Colesano had quite a day at the plate for the hosts, hammering out five hits to go a combined 5-7 on the day and he scored six runs to go with it. Jared Joy went a combined 3-6 on the afternoon and plated three runs.
The Mashpee High Falcons will visit Sturgis East at Lowell Park on Monday (May 18) for a 4:00 pm tilt.
