The Cape Cod Storm had earned a shot at the title with a big win against the Illinois Falcons on Saturday and made it to the single-elimination playoffs yesterday but fell to New York’s Amherst Knights. The Knights were slated to face the Assabet Red team from Massachusetts for the championship title this morning at the The Summit Sports and Ice Complex.
Cape Tech’s Blue Fancy, an SEMGHL All-Star and Capecod.com All-Cape & Islands selection this past hockey season, paced The Storm on Saturday with a goal and two assists and Falmouth High’s Rachael Curtis and Bourne/Mashpee/Wareham all-star Marissa Fitzgerald both scored to lead the girls past the Falcons.
In Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Amherst Knights, Fitzgerald scored both goals for the Storm and Dennis-Yarmouth’s Summer Walsh assisted on the first goal. Fitzgerald’s second goal was unassisted.
The Storm also defeated the New Jersey Colonials, 7-2, while in Michigan vying for the title.
