FITCHBURG — Fitchburg State senior Lindsey White (Hanover, Mass.) netted five goals to lead the host Falcons to a 19-7 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Friday evening at Elliot Field.
White notched a hat trick in the opening 13:33 of play to stake the host Falcons (14-3, 5-2 MASCAC) to an early 7-1 advantage, while freshman Corinne DeSimone (Dennis, Mass.) added a first half hat trick of her own as Fitchburg State grabbed a 9-4 edge at the break. After a pair of tallies by freshman Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) in the opening 2:52 after intermission enabled the visiting Buccaneers (5-9, 1-6 MASCAC) to close back to within six at 11-5, the hosts took control of the contest with six unanswered goals from six different players over an 8:07 stretch to ice their triumph.
DeSimone finished with four goals and an assist for five points in the win for Fitchburg State, which also received a hat trick from sophomore Andrea Comeau (Watertown, Mass.). Junior Brianna Dunn (Monson, Mass.) and freshman Jaimee Lutz (Foxboro, Mass.) chipped in with two goals each for the Falcons, who also received a marker and three helpers from sophomore Kayla Panek (Belchertown, Mass.) to go with single tallies off the sticks of senior Jessica Sullivan (Milton, Mass.) and sophomore Ali Laferriere (Tyngsboro, Mass.).
Hunt collected a hat trick and set new single season marks for goals (37) and points (53) in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two tallies from sophomore Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.). Sophomores Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) and Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) also netted markers for the Buccaneers, who received an assist from junior Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.).
