HYANNIS – The Barnstable Post 206 American Legion baseball team – in last place at the outset of the season – took over first place in the East Division last night at McKeon Park with decisive victories over Pembroke Post 143 and Hanover Post 149, by scores of 15-0 and 11-2, respectively.
Post 206 righty Eric Holzman went to 4-0 on the season by tossing a five-inning no-hitter against Pembroke Post 143 as his teammates pounded out 16 hits and 15 runs.
Holzman struck out seven and walked two.
Drew Tardif (2-3, 2 RBI), Gary DiSarcina Jr. (2-4, 3 RBI), Jake Gleason (2-2, 3 RBI), Jackson Badot (2-4) and Andrew Williams (2-2) each had multiple hits in the game. Gleason hammered a double and triple – both in Barnstable’s nine-run first inning.
In the twinbill nightcap, Post 206 again jumped out to an early lead with seven runs in the first inning en route to an 11-2 win.
Dan Crossen went five innings for his first American Legion victory and his first start on the hill. He struck out two and scattered five hits while walking none. Ben Floren tossed the sixth and seventh innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out two.
Crossen’s teammates hammered out 13 hits in the win for a total of 29 on the day.
Tardif (2-4, RBI), DiSarcina (2-4), Gleason (2-2, 2 RBI), Badot (2-4) and Bobby Higgins (2-3, RBI) each had multiple hits for Post 206. Gleason hammered his second two-run triple of the day as part of Barnstable’s seven-run first inning.
Post 206 (13-6) has three straight regular season games before the District 10 playoffs begin Friday, July 17.
