PROVINCETOWN – The waters north of Cape Cod are teeming with whales and other marine life, according to the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown.

The center’s Humpback Whale Studies program took their first cruise of the year last month and spotted more than 30 cataloged humpback and fin whales.

Individual humpback whales seen on the cruise include Cajun, Canopy, Crisscross, Dome, Hancock, Jabiru, Landslide, Lobo, Mend, Springboard, Ursa and the 2014 calves Ventisca and Clamp.

Researchers also spotted Atlantic white-sided dolphins, three seal species, harbor porpoise and the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale.

Center scientists have studied and cataloged humpback whales across the Gulf of Maine since the 1970s.
