Wellfleet OysterFest to Attract Thousands to Outer Cape this Weekend

WELLFLEET – The 17th annual Wellfleet OysterFest will be held this weekend, and raw shellfish will make its return to the festivities.

The event will offer something for everyone: live music, arts and crafts, culinary displays, educational programs, and of course – the annual shuck off.

“It’s amazing fun to watch as they go through those oysters faster than you can believe and to see who wins each year, it’s very exciting,” said OysterFest Executive Director Michele Insley.

The Wellfleet OysterFest will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. rain or shine, and tickets can be purchased at www.wellfleetspat.org.

OysterFest is presented by SPAT, which promotes knowledge and interest in Wellfleet’s shellfishery by educating the community.

Through events and seminars on shellfishing and environmental issues, SPAT celebrates and spreads the word about the town’s famous oysters and clams and its deep-rooted shellfishing traditions.

Proceeds support the organization’s educational mission which includes a local college scholarship program, community grant awards and initiatives to support Wellfleet’s shellfishing and aquaculture industries.

To date, SPAT has awarded $422,320 between the high school scholarship program and its community grants.
