Venomous Portuguese Man-of-War Jelly Fish Found at Yarmouth Beaches

COURTESY OF YARMOUTH PARKS AND RECREATION

YARMOUTH – Yarmouth’s Division of Natural Resources is cautioning beachgoers to be on the lookout for Portuguese man-of-war jelly fish.

In a facebook post, the DNR reports a few of the venomous jelly fish have washed up on beaches in town.

The jelly fish should never be touched, especially the tentacles which can average about 30 feet.

Anyone who sees one should notify a lifeguard immediately.

The Portuguese man-of-war does not swim. Its movements depend on wind direction and speed, along with water currents.
