WOODS HOLE – The Board of Governors for the Steamship Authority voted last week to award a contract for the refurbishment of the freight boat M/V Gay Head.
The board awarded the $737,488 contract to Senesco Marine LLC, of North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
The vessel will be in dry-dock from July 2 through August 12.
The ship will undergo a required United States Coast Guard hull exam, propulsion shaft inspections, propeller inspections, rudder inspections, hull plating replacement, steering system upgrade, void space blasting and painting, and bow thruster maintenance.
The same company refurbished the ferry service’s M/V Martha’s Vineyard shortly before it was plagued by a series of breakdowns last year.
The Steamship Authority also received a bid of $740,577 from Thames Shipyard & Repair Co., of New London, Connecticut.
