Search for Seabirds with the Buzzards Bay Coalition Along the Cape Cod Canal

Sunrise, Cape Cod Canal

BOURNE – Some of the most exotic birds that visit Cape Cod arrive in the dead of winter.

Join the Buzzards Bay Coalition and experienced birder Nate Marchessault at Massachusetts Maritime Academy on December 9 to search for some of these fascinating winged visitors while they’re in town.

From buffleheads to eiders to fast-moving mergansers, many different bird species that migrate along the East Coast settle around Buzzards Bay and on the Cape for the winter months. Some species even migrate all the way from the Arctic.

The group will meet at Mass. Maritime and travel to key locations along the canal where wintering birds can be found.

A warm coat, hat, and gloves are highly recommended. All levels of birders are welcome.

This walk is part of Discover Buzzards Bay, a resource to find unique and exciting ways to explore the outdoors, get some exercise and connect with nature. Use Discover Buzzards Bay to get outside and discover woods, wetlands and waterways from Fall River to Falmouth. Discover Buzzards Bay is sponsored by SouthCoast Health.

Visit savebuzzardsbay.org to RSVP for the event.
