FALMOUTH – One of the most popular attractions at this year’s Barnstable County Fair is the Sea Lion Show that takes place near the West Gate at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds.
Three South American sea lions take part in the show, which is the only traveling, self-contained Sea Lion show in the country.
“It’s educational, entertaining, I guarantee you, you’ll be walking away learning something new about sea lions,” said James Earhart, manager of the Sea Lion show.
The educational show also includes a display of tricks that the sea lions can do, like balancing balls, shooting hoops, dancing and performing handstands.
Those wanting to get up close and personal with the sea lions can also have their photo taken with them after the show.
“It’s one of a kind, we bring the sea lions to you, where everywhere else in the country you have to go to an aquarium, but we bring them to you in these smaller areas like this where people have never seen one, and they don’t know the difference between a seal and a sea lion,” said Earhart.
When they’re not traveling throughout the country, the sea lions enjoy leisure at their permanent home in Florida where they spend their days playing and socializing with each other and their trainers.
The show takes place throughout the day at the Barnstable County Fair.
