WELLFLEET – The first two days of research for the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy in Cape Cod Bay have proved to be very productive.

According to a post from the group, Dr. Greg Skomal with the Massachusetts Department of Marine Fisheries spotted 11 white sharks in the Billingsgate Shoal area on Monday.

They also tagged two sharks, a 9-footer and a 10-footer.

Those were the first sharks to be tagged in Cape Cod Bay

Skomal and the Conservancy wrapped up a five-year white shark population study last year that was focused between Chatham and Provincetown.

The research project moved into Cape Cod Bay for the first time this year.

Skomal and his team plan on spotting and tagging sharks throughout the summer.
