NOAA Fisheries Announces New Voluntary Speed Restriction Zone

NANTUCKET – NOAA Fisheries has established a voluntary vessel speed restriction zone 15 nautical miles south of Nantucket.

The zone was established to protect an aggregation of 20 right whales that were sighted in the area recently.

Mariners are asked to avoid or transit at 10 knots or less inside the area.

The voluntary speed restriction is in effect through Thursday.
