BREWSTER – Residents and visitors on Cape Cod will be able to see how a block of wood can be transformed into a piece of bird art throughout the summer season.
The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster is offering Bird Carving 101 on Tuesday and Thursday mornings through July and August.
The practice of bird carving will be demonstrated by Stephen Rich, who has worked out of his studio near the waterways and marshlands of Osterville and Marstons Mills since 1985.
Although Rich is mainly self-taught, he has studied under some of the best known carvers in local classes and has made steady progress into the advanced ranks of wood carvers and artisans.
Attendees will be able to see the process from start to finish, ask questions and enjoy the Eldridge Arnold carving workshop exhibit.
The classes are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are free with museum admission.
