ORLEANS – A layout made famous in several “Model Railroader” articles and books will be on display to the public on Memorial Day weekend at the Nauset Model Railroad Club open house.

John Pryke’s Union Freight layout depicts a switching railroad that ran through Boston’s waterfront streets for over 100 years and is well-known for its urban scenery and fine detail.

Union Freight will be preserved as an operating part of the club’s HO layout thanks to the late Pryke, who had been a club member.

The club’s free open house is Saturday, May 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the rear, lower level of the Hilltop Plaza on Route 6A in Orleans.

The open house features operating model railroads in G, O, S, HO and N Scales.

An over-the-track station modeled after the Pawtucket – Central Falls station from 100 years ago has also been completed by the O-gauge team.

The club, which is in its 28th year, has more than 80 members. The club meets weekly to run trains, build models, watch videos, have clinics and share experiences.

Memberships are available and more information can be found at nausetmodelrrclub.com.
