HYANNIS – Residents and visitors on the Cape interested in drumming will have a chance enhance their skills and learn a different repertoire of rhythms during a workshop with master drummer Namory Keita later this month.
The workshop will be held Monday, August 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the Hyannis Village Green.
Keita was born in the West African village of Sangbarala, Guinea and began drumming at the age of seven.
He grew up drumming with his uncle Famoudou Konate, who is one of the most renowned African drummers in the world.
Keita has been the lead drummer of his village since 2006.
He has traveled around the world teaching, performing and sharing his culture in places that include Germany, Poland, France, Canada and Portugal.
Currently, he performs and teaches weekly drumming classes to students of all skill levels throughout New England.
