MASHPEE – Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline will find out this week if he will be the new police chief in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Carline is one of six finalists for the job, which will open up in June. He interviewed for the position on Friday.

In a statement to the CapeCod.com NewsCenter, Carline said he remains dedicated to his job in Mashpee. He has been the police chief in town since 2015 when he replaced Rodney Collins, who left the department to become town manager.

“I can confirm that I am a finalist for the Portsmouth Police Chief position. This is in no way a reflection on the Town of Mashpee and I remain completely dedicated to my department and this town. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the community leaders of Mashpee and this is just an opportunity to explore what could be a tremendous opportunity for me and my family. Having said that there is still a long way to go in the process and from the other finalists I’ve seen this could be a very difficult endeavor,”

Carline is a New Hampshire native.

According to the Portsmouth Herald, the other finalists are Wilmington police chief Michael Begonis; Joseph Costa, the chief of police in DeSoto, Texas; Tampa, Florida police captain David Goodman; Seattle assistant chief Robert Merner; and Dermot Quinn, the Lt. Col. Of Investigative Services for the Massachusetts State Police.
