HYANNIS – A man who swam from Cape Cod to France in in 1998 is now attempting the more formidable task of crossing the Pacific Ocean.
Benoit Lecomte, a 50-year-old Texas resident who was born in France, is trying to be the first person to swim 5,500 miles across the Pacific to raise awareness about plastic pollution.
Lecomte plans to swim eight hours per day and rest on an accompanying boat, similar to his 3,700-mile journey across the Atlantic.
He left Tokyo earlier this week and is expected to reach San Francisco after more than 6 months on the water.
