Madeline Hurley (McLaughlin) of Centerville, MA, formerly of Needham and Belmont, MA passed away on August 1, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Nora O’Neill and John McLaughlin. Beloved wife of Joseph Hurley of Centerville for 58 years. Devoted mother of Patrice of North Weymouth, MA, Elizabeth Anne of Bedford, MA, Joseph (Lisa) of Madison, CT, and Stephen (Danielle) of Los Angeles, CA and grandchildren Joseph, Emily, Andrew, Arthur, and Charles.
Madeline was the sister of Mary Anne Dailey of Needham, Marguerite Canavan of Winthrop, and the late John McLaughlin of Topsfield. She was the sister-in-law of James Hurley of Weymouth and Thomas Hurley of Milton. Madeline is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Madeline grew up in Belmont, MA. She graduated from Rosary Academy in Brighton, MA. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA and a Master’s Degree in Education from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA.
Madeline was a caring, charming, generous, intelligent, witty, wise and wonderful person. It was delightful to spend time with her. She was adept at regaling amusing stories. Madeline was easy to talk to and an attentive listener. Friends and relatives frequently took a seat in her home or called with their problems to which she dispensed her unique insight and wisdom, leaving their day brightened. Madeline enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. We are all better people for knowing her.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Ave., Osterville, MA. Burial will take place Monday at the VA National Cemetery in Bourne.
