OAK BLUFFS – Since 2015, more than 2,000 Martha’s Vineyard license plates have been sold, but beginning in July, the coveted plates will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Plate numbers in between 1-100 will be available, and proceeds of the online auctions will help provide vital services for islanders.
“It’s to fund programs and services of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, and additional island organizations that benefit youth and elders,” MVCS Communications Director Mary Korba said.
“The money is going to a great cause, and you can get a cool license plate number that has a special meaning to you.”
MVCS provides an array of services, including mental health and disability services and early childhood programs. The organization also welcomes anyone who comes for help.
“We are the only social services safety net, you can come here and no one is ever turned away due to a lack of funds,” Korba said.
Auctions will be held in July, September and December, with the first online auction getting underway on July 9.
Those interested are encouraged to pre-register, and can do so at www.biddingforgood.com/MVCOMM.
