HARWICH – Harwich firefighters were out in the cold Saturday performing ice rescue drills on Bucks Pond.

The department trains all its members in the skills of ice rescue and reminds the public to use caution and common sense when on natural ice.

Harwich fire says ponds, lakes, streams and harbors can be unpredictable and unsafe even after it has been very cold.

They warn that no one should ever go out on the ice alone. Pets should not be allowed on the ice and ice emergencies should be reported immediately.
