WELLFLEET – Residents and visitors to the Cape will have a chance to experience the open space and conservation lands of Wellfleet next weekend with a tour of Lieutenant Island, or is it Lieutenant’s Island?

It’s actually both and attendees will find out why.

The Wellfleet Conservation Trust will hold its 10th annual Guided Walking Tour on September 10 at 9 a.m.

Participants will be guided by naturalists and other local experts who will share their knowledge of the history, geology, and ecology of the areas being explored.

Other than the island’s name, the walk will cover topics that include the causeway and bridge, terrapin gardens, early settlers, aquaculture and erosion.

The walk, which is almost 3 miles, will start at the beginning of the Lieutenant Island causeway before the bridge.

The event will be about 2 and ½ to three hours long and is free and open to the public.

Parking is limited so carpooling is recommended.
