Geoff Diehl, Potential GOP Challenger to Sen. Warren, Speaks in Bourne

BOURNE – An event was held on Wednesday night in Bourne for a possible candidate that could take on Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren in the 2018 election.

Republican State Representative Geoff Diehl, who represents the Whitman district, has launched an exploratory committee before he decides whether or not to enter the race.

He said that he will make a decision in mid to late summer whether to run or not.

“We’re starting to see there’s traction not only with supporters that have helped me in past campaigns, but also in fundraising,” said Diehl. “Events like this where we have a lot of folks here excited to see me, means that we’re on the right track.”

The Bourne Republican Town Committee held a reception and fundraiser for Diehl at The Brookside Club.

Three weeks ago, Diehl opened a federal campaign account as he explores a potential challenge to Warren.

Diehl, who has served as State Representative for seven years, was also the Massachusetts co-chairman of President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.

He pointed to Warren’s two book tours and her time spent helping other Democrats across the country instead of her constituents as reasons why he’s interested in running.

“We need someone who’s working for Massachusetts and what has she done for our state since she’s been in office? Very little. But what has she done for herself? A lot.”

Diehl has said that he would ask Trump to support him and come to the Bay State if he decides to run.
