WASHINGTON D.C. – FEMA announced yesterday that President Donald Trump has issued a Major Disaster Declaration that will make federal disaster assistance available for the severe storm that impacted the Massachusetts this past March.
Federal aid will be available to cities and towns, state agencies and certain non-profits in six counties, including Barnstable, to help cover storm-related response and repair costs as a result of the severe winter storm, which struck the region on March 2-3.
The storm included widespread coastal flooding, damaging hurricane-force winds and prolonged power outages.
The authorization comes under a Major Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance that covers Barnstable, Bristol, Essex, Nantucket, Norfolk and Plymouth counties. These are the six counties whose eligible storm costs exceeded federal financial thresholds under the Public Assistance Program.
A separate request from Governor Charlie Baker for federal disaster assistance for the March 13th severe winter storm is still pending.
