BUZZARDS BAY – A safety expert hired by the town of Bourne has determined that the playground and splash pad at the town’s brand new Buzzards Bay Park are not compliant with certain regulations.
Certified playground safety expert Nancy White recently appeared before selectmen to deliver her findings. She informed officials that the playground is not in compliance with state and federal Americans with Disabilities Laws.
White, who appeared with Bourne Town Counsel Robert Troy, told the board that plans are already underway for a reconfiguration of the playground to move it into compliance.
The town hired White to assess the playground after a 2-year-old girl lost a toe in an incident at the $7.3 million park earlier this summer – which led to the closure of the new playground and splash pad.
