HARWICH – Harbor Health’s Ellen Jones Community Dental Center will have a new home this spring.
The center, which serves 3,300 lower-income patients, is currently located at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich.
The dental facility will be moving to PatriotSquare in Dennis.
“The new dental center is going to have eight chairs so we will be expanding,” said Administrative Director of Dental Services at Harbor Health, Erin Mullaney.
“There’s a need, there is more than we can handle as far as the need that’s down here on the Cape for dental services.”
Harbor’s Ellen Jones is one of the few dental practices accepting MassHealth for adults on the lower Cape.
The dental care team provides regular and walk-in emergency dental care for all ages, and the Center also offers help applying for health insurance and a sliding fee scale.
“We provide a critical access point for the community at the existing sites,” said Executive Director of Dental Services at Harbor Health, Matt Horan.
“That’s something we are really striving to maintain as we relocate to expand the current Ellen Jones to the new dental location in Dennis.”
Harbor opened the dental center inside Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in 2000 and started a unique collaboration with the school’s dental assisting program.
Program students work alongside the dental care team at Ellen Jones, developing the skills they are learning in the classroom.
The Center will continue its partnership with CCT even after both move into new buildings.
The Center will also be able to offer more appointments because of the expansion.
Harbor Health has begun an effort to raise $300,000 to cover the costs of the relocation and expansion of the new Center.
Anyone interested in supporting the relocation and expansion efforts to Ellen Jones can donate online at HHSI.US/DonateEllenJones or mail a check payable to the Ellen Jones Fund to Harbor Health Services, 1135 Morton Street, Mattapan, MA, 02126.
Cape Cod Healthcare will match up to $100,000 in donations to the Center’s relocation and expansion efforts.
