BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Democratic party has chosen a candidate to run against incumbent Republican state Sen. Patrick O’Connor in November.
Paul Gannon is a former state representative and current selectman from Hingham. Gannon was chosen after the winner of the Sept. 8 Democratic primary, Joan Meschino, declined the nomination.
Meschino has decided to instead run for the House seat being vacated by Democratic state Rep. Garrett Bradley.
Gannon ran unsuccessfully in the April special election. The party selected Gannon over Brian Cook, who finished second in the recent Democratic primary.
The incumbent O’Connor won the Senate seat in a special election earlier this year. He succeeded Robert Hedlund, who left the Senate after being elected mayor of Weymouth.
