YARMOUTH – The Cultural Center of Cape Cod is hosting a screening of the award-winning film “Look at Us Now, Mother” on August 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Gayle Kirschenbaum’s humorous, moving, intimate and courageous documentary details the transformation of her abusive mother and tumultuous mother-daughter relationship to one of acceptance and love.
The New York Times wrote that the story is heartwarming and is a story of acceptance and forgiveness and the Washington Post applauded its “dazzling self-confidence”.
After screenings, audience members shared their experiences and wanted to know how Kirschenbaum handled her highly critical mother.
Kirschenbaum found herself teaching people about how she did it by using her “Seven Healing Tools” on how to transform abusive relationships.
Kirschenbaum realized that as a filmmaker who has a huge archive of footage, and a mother who was agreeable, that it was her mission to tell her whole story, and that led to her making the deeply personal feature documentary “Look at us now, Mother!”
Following the film, there will be a panel featuring Kirschenbaum, and mental health professionals, including Dr. Joseph Zollow.
The event is co-sponsored by the National Alliance of Mental Health of Cape Cod and Islands.
Tickets for the event are $10-$12 and are available at cultural-center.org.
