SANDWICH – The Coast Guard will conduct an active shooter training exercise at Air Station Cape Cod Wednesday and Thursday, as station personnel practice their response plan to a threatening gunman on the grounds of the base.
Local residents are advised that simulated gunshots may be heard near the base between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
“We do not wish to alarm local residents, however, we urge the public not to discount any suspicious activity or incident as a training exercise,” said Chief Petty Officer Timothy Steele, the commanding security officer for Air Station Cape Cod.
“Remain vigilant, and if you do see something, say something,” Steele added.
Local law enforcement agencies have been notified of the drill, which officials describe as a routine exercise.
