Centerville to Host Annual Old Home Week

CENTERVILLE – A week-long celebration in Centerville kicks off next Sunday.

The 115th anniversary of Centerville Old Home Week features several family friendly events and concerts to celebrate the past, present and future of the village.

Old Home Week begins Sunday, August 4 with a Birthday Block Party. The event from 1 to 5 p.m. celebrates the Centerville Public Library’s 150th birthday.

Main Street will be closed for the celebration which includes food trucks, an inflatable bounce house, kid’s games, live music and a dedication ceremony of the 150th Celebration Plaque.

A Cape Harmony a cappella concert will follow the birthday celebration at 7 p.m. at the Tabernacle, Craigville Concert Center on Lake Elizabeth Drive. Admission to the performance is free.

Monday, August 5 is Movie Night at the Centerville Public Library. HOW, a local non-profit and community partner with the library, will present the documentary “Mindfulness Goes Mainstream.” In the film experts provide their insight into why “Mindful Wellness” is exploding across the country. The screening is free.

The annual Centerville Civic Association Summer Meeting is Tuesday, August 6 at the Centerville Public Library at 7 p.m.

The event will include strawberry shortcake and ice cream from Four Seas.

Hyannis Sound will perform a free concert at Our Lady of Victory Church on Wednesday, August 7 at 7 p.m.

The Centerville Old Home Week 5k Run/Walk is Thursday, August 8 at Covells Beach. Registration is $25, $5 for ages 7-18 and free for children 6 and under.

The Youth runs begin at 5:40 p.m., with the 5k beginning at 6 p.m. Participants can pre-register online. Same day registration will be held at the beach from 3 to 5 p.m.

The annual Yard Sale is Saturday, August 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Centerville Historical Museum. Household goods and kitchen items, tools and hardware, toys and play equipment, books, jewelry, small furniture and a variety of other items will be for sale.

Old Home Week will conclude with a concert and bonfire Saturday, August 10 at 7 p.m. at Craigville Beach. The Moonlighters will perform the best in rock, R&B, funk, soul, classics and blues. The concert will be followed by the traditional bonfire.
