Cape Cod Toy Library to Host Weekly Family Play Days

BARNSTABLE – The Cape Cod Toy Library is hosting family play days every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The play days feature a screen-free play environment for families to play and learn together with an enriching play space and resources to foster all areas of child development.

A professional staff with expertise in child development and play to support experiences are always on duty as well.

“The Cape Cod Toy Library is really a family play learning center it’s an environment that supports families to come and play together and spend time in today’s world where there is less and less opportunity for children to have that opened ended creative play opportunity,” said Cape Cod Toy Library Founder and President Deb Willsea.

“That’s so important for their development, their brain development, their relationships, their social development, as well as their physical development.”

The Cape Cod Toy Library was founded four years ago by Willsea after there was public interest in setting up a similar organization to the one she ran while she was in Rochester, New York.

“This came to fruition because people found out that I had done this in Rochester New York over the course of 30 years and it was a very successful toy library play space and people said ‘would you please help us to do this here on the Cape,’” Willsea said.

“Educators, mental health professional, as well as parents have been asking and wishing for this to become a reality.”

Cape Cod Toy Library is a safe, learning environment where families can go to spend time, play, explore, and discover new experiences together.

High quality play materials are offered at CCTL which enrich home and environments and the quality of childcare settings and community programs.

Many parents do not have the knowledge or the resources to help facilitate their children’s fundamental play-based learning, CCTL’s goal is to help families and allow them to play more in a constructive setting.

“We literally create the fellowship hall and other spaces inside and out as this creative play space for families to come to,” continued Willsea.

Cape Cod Toy Library and the family plays days are located at the First Lutheran Church at 1663 Main Street, West Barnstable.

Admission is $10 for one child and $8 for every additional child.

An endless summer pass is available for $75 which allows for limitless family summer visits.

Finical assistance is also available to support family participation.
