EAST FALMOUTH – The 2016 edition of the Barnstable County Fair has been delighting crowds since Monday with high-flying motorcycle shows, lots of farm animals and plenty of fair food.
Fair officials said crowds have been strong since the gates opened Monday afternoon.
Tuesday night featured a concert from the up-and-coming country music duo, High Valley.
A demolition derby is scheduled for Wednesday night, followed by country music star Eric Paslay on Thursday.
Sister Hazel, the Rascals and The Willis Clan round out the entertainment Friday through Sunday.
“The gates are crowded, people seem to be really receptive to all the activity going around, there’s a lot of new activity at the games and entertainment as soon as you come in. The ground shows are wonderful,” said Fair Manager Wendy Brown.
The 172nd season includes attractions that highlight the culture and agricultural history of Cape Cod and the Islands.
The fair runs through Sunday.
On the grounds, the fair welcomes back the Sea Lion Splash show. The act, which last appeared at the fair in 2012, is made up of rescued sea lions who would otherwise not be allowed to survive in the wild because of sickness, age or injuries.
The fan favorite Birds of Prey show also returns this year, which features rescued hawks, eagles, owls and other birds of prey.
There are also two new amenities this year, including a Beer Garden and the Artisan Market. Highlighting the best artisans from Cape Cod and New England, the Artisan Market is a curated marketplace of artists, crafters and jewelers.
The Beer Garden will be located in the Food Loop and adds macro and craft beer options to the Fair.
Gates open at 4 p.m. through Thursday, with the fair beginning at noon Friday through Sunday.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under
