BARNSTABLE – Barnstable town employees are scheduled to begin distributing rabies baits by hand around town on Tuesday.
The spring wildlife rabies vaccination is underway as bait stations across the Cape have been filled in Mashpee, Sandwich, Barnstable, Yarmouth, Dennis, Harwich and Brewster.
The stations are strategically placed in wooded areas and are designed to attract raccoons.
Residents who find baits are asked to dispose of them in the woods or the trash and to pick them up with a glove or towel.
They are not harmful to pets but officals urge residents to keep their animals away from the baits.
