SAGAMORE – The repair work on the Sagamore Bridge is expected to be completed by the end of the week – well ahead of original projections.
The contractor, R. Zoppo Corporation of Stoughton, is finalizing the installation of bridge joints and repairing damaged concrete along the sidewalk as part of the third and final stage of the project.
According to the Army Corps of Engineers New England Facebook page, the project is 90 percent complete and, barring any unforeseen complications, all four travel lanes over the bridge are expected to be open no later than Friday.
The project was originally expected to last through May 23.
Crews have been repairing damaged roadway joints since early April.
The project has resulted in the 24/7 closure of one lane on each side of the bridge, causing significant traffic problems on a daily basis.
A similar project, with a longer timetable, is scheduled for the Bourne Bridge after Labor Day.
