As Veterans Day approaches, you may be wondering what you can do to help honor those who served. Here is a list of local events to commemorate our veterans.
Nov. 8
7th Annual Field of Honor – The Cape again provides the gorgeous setting for the 7th annual Dennis Field of Honor® display of more than 350 flags in tribute to our military, our veterans and our personal heroes. Cape Cod’s AMVETS Post 333 proudly hosts the event, where flags may be sponsored to dedicate them to individuals who have served to defend and protect us at home and around the world. 4th Annual Veteran’s Buddy Project – On Nov. 8, 11, and 12, men and women of all branches of the US Military will be accompanying Flower Angels USA volunteers to deliver nearly 400 patriotic honor bouquets to veterans from Bourne to Provincetown. Flower Angels USA’s 4th Annual Veteran’s Buddy Project is a special tribute of gratitude to our veterans who courageously served our country with honor. Veteran’s Buddy Project also remembers the men and women who have given their lives in service to this nation and those actively on duty.
Veterans’ Free Dentistry Day – Veterans in the Brewster community and surrounding areas will have the opportunity to receive free dental services at East Brewster Dental on Friday, Nov. 8. Dr. Stephen Bellorini, Dr. Owais Shaikh and their team at East Brewster Dental will be honoring and supporting local veterans as part of Veteran’s Free Dentistry Day, a day dedicated to providing free dental care to the growing number of veterans without dental insurance. Operation Flags for Vets – At this annual event, help honor our nation’s heroes by placing 77,000 flags on their graves at the National Cemetery on Connery Ave. in Bourne, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Military Appreciation Event – This is the annual Cape Cod Cares 4 the Troops drop-off event for items to be mailed to our military overseas. Christmas care packages include personal toiletry items, food items and other useful goodies. Christmas cards will be available to fill out and we will include the cards with the donations. Lunch from the Lobster Trap will be served. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Cape Cod Harley-Davidson, 750 MacArthur Blvd., Pocasset.
Musical Performance to Commemorate Veterans – A musical performance at The Yarmouth Port Library will commemorate veterans at 2 p.m., 297 Route 6A. The event will feature the music of The Northside String Band, featuring Bob Hagopian (mandolin), Bill Archie (banjo), and Bob Mueller (guitar), and will include old folk music, early jazz melodies and old time banjo tunes. Annual Veterans Day Concert – Join us for an afternoon of great music at the Cape Cod Irish Village in Yarmouth, featuring Sarah Swain and the Oh Boy’s and The Paddy Murphy Quartet, from 2 to 6 p.m. Hosted by the Cape Cod Veterans Inc. Admission is free.

Veterans Day Parade – This year’s Veterans Day Parade in Hyannis will form next to the Town Hall Building, extending back to the Village Green. The parade will step off promptly at 10 a.m. The parade will conclude at the Hyannis Village Green for the Annual Barnstable Soldiers Veterans’ Day Program. This year’s keynote speaker is Colonel (Retired) Scott A. Romberger who joined the EOM Offshore team in November of 2017 as the Chief Operating Officer.
A Special Veterans Day in Barnstable Village – This is a special service of gratitude and healing, a unique and respectful way to honor our veterans. All are welcome, especially veterans and active duty military. Enjoy patriotic music, Wear your uniform! Reception follows in Walden Hall. Event begins at 2 p.m., St. Mary’s Episcopal Church 3055 Rte. 6A Barnstable Village.
Third Annual Barnstable Veterans Town Hall – Hear the personal 10-minute testimonies of combat veterans, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Barnstable Town Hall Building, 367 Main St., Hyannis.
“The American Soldier” – This is a solo show, based on actual accounts and letters written by veterans and their families from the American Revolution through current day Iraq and Afghanistan wars. It strives to help us understand why it is so difficult for our veterans to re-enter our pedestrian life when they come home after experiencing combat, and examines the incredible sacrifices made by our veterans and their families. The show, which begins at 7 p.m. at Barnstable Comedy Club, is sponsored by the Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach Center.
Veterans Day Breakfast – Calling all Cape Cod veterans, military, and Gold Star Families! You and your family are invited to a special breakfast and fellowship at beautiful Clancy’s on the water in Dennis. Breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. with a special ceremony starting at 9 a.m. Guest speaker is United States Marine Corps and Massachusetts State Police Veteran, and 1st District State Representative Tim Whalen. No reservations are required and the there is no charge.
Veterans Day Free Meal – The Club at New Seabury will honor America’s Veterans, Monday, November 11, with a special Veterans Day Brunch. We invite all active, inactive and retired military personnel to enjoy a complimentary brunch at the Club’s new 95 Shore restaurant. Service members are asked to make a reservation in advance of November 11 and to show a military I.D. or proof of military service upon arrival. To make a reservation, please call 508-539-8256. The Club will seat Veterans with reservations from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon and also accommodate walk-ins based on availability.
Veterans Day Ceremony – The Town of Chatham Veterans Day Ceremony will take place at the Chatham Community Center, 702 Main Street, Chatham, instead of at the rotary. The ceremony will begin promptly at 11 a.m., at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. The participants will include members of the Chatham VFW and American Legion, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Chatham VFW, the Chatham Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and boys and girls from our Scout organizations. Please arrive early. Allow time for parking and seating.
Seventh Annual Veterans Day Tribute Breakfast – Military veterans are invited to a complimentary Veterans Tribute Breakfast buffet at the Flying Bridge Restaurant, 220 Scranton Ave., Falmouth. The invitation is reserved and limited to veterans of the US military branches of service (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy) and may include their spouse or a personal assistant. Doors open at 8 a.m., breakfast buffet service begins at 8:30 a.m. Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank’s “Red Shirt Friday” volunteers will provide table service.
