Hello, My Name Is: Brian Beneduce

Welcome to our new feature, “Hello My Name Is…”. In the coming weeks we will have the opportunity to spend a little time getting to know people in our community. As you know, the best way to learn about someone is to ask questions. In this series we will ask ten questions to different individuals so that we can know the folks who live with us here on Cape Cod.

Hello, My Name Is Brian Beneduce

Occupation: Motivational Speaker specializing in panic and anxiety and author of “Scared to Death… But Do It Anyway”.

What was your first paying job? First paying job was Nikos Wienerama in Rhode Island at 15. I was “elevated” from busboy to making wieners up my arm.

When was the last time you laughed really hard? Actually it has to be something my son Michael said. He’s 24 lives in Boston but when he comes home he’s a comedian. And the great thing it’s spontaneous!

Did you grow up on the Cape? If not, where did you grow up and why did you come to the Cape? Actually, born in Jersey, moved to Canaan, Ct at 7. Then Rhode Island sophomore year in high school where I met my high school sweetheart. She introduced me to the Cape where she came as a child. We fell in love with Chatham and been coming ever since. (We finally bought a home here 13 years ago).

Where is your ‘go-to’ spot for a cup of chowder? SQUIRE in Chatham. The Squire is a big reason for purchase of our house!

Do you have a favorite non-profit group here on the Cape? Actually, it is off Cape in Providence, R.I. It is Bradley Hospital where 100 percent of my book profits go, and where I give talks to kids and parents that suffer with severe anxiety issues.

What is the one thing you love to do that surprises people the most? Play the drums. I used to be a very good trumpet player but my first love is the drums. Not in bands but in my “ drum room” in my house…where I put on concerts and play to thousands in my head!

In a parallel universe, what would you be doing? No question, professional baseball player. ( Preferably the Red Sox!)

What person had the greatest influence on you and why? Gonna sound corny but Sylvester Stallone. His personal story is truly amazing to me. Where he was and what he went through as a person. His films (Rocky) helped me get through many difficult situations going through my ordeal dealing with my “issue”s in the beginning when I did not know that what I was suffering from was acute anxiety.

If I looked in your refrigerator right now, what would I see? It depends. In the garage: great craft beers. Inside, the house refrigerator is full of great food. My wife’s a great cook. Every single day and I mean every single day she makes me chicken soup. I love working out which means I need a lot of protein. So… It’s my request that she makes chicken soup. She is so tired of making it but she knows I love it so I honestly have it every single night unless we go out to dinner of course. It’s almost one full whole Foods chicken and about eight different kinds of vegetables. We always say we can win a dating question game especially about food!

If you could go out on a boat fishing for a day, who would you bring? Again, Sly Stallone OR Kenny Chesney if Sly was busy.
