Fortune Feimster comes to Provincetown for Women’s Week

Fortune Feimster is bringing her unique brand of comedy to Provincetown this October. She’s been a regular on Mindy Kaling’s “The Mindy Project” for the past 3 seasons and was named Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch in 2014.

Feimster’s TV credits include “2 Broke Girls,” “Chelsea,” “Chelsea Lately,” “Workaholics,” and “Glee.” Stuber’s recent feature film credits include “Patriots Day,” “Ted 2,” “The Free State of Jones,” and “Central Intelligence.”

After watching her recent Netflix special as part of The Stand Ups, I was over the moon to hear that she would be playing a string of dates during Women’s Week at The Post Office Café and Caberet. Plus the show starts at 5:30pm which means I’d be able to drive home before my bedtime.

Fortune’s brand of comedy is fun. No angry rants or shock value. She regularly posts videos of herself dancing while eating ice cream which have become incredibly popular with her fans. I asked her how this started and she giggled in the way that makes you immediately want to be in on the joke. “I don’t even know. I was at Disneyland with some friends. And you know they have that Disney parade? It was really hot so we got some ice cream to watch the parade. When the band started playing I danced and my friend videoed it. I mean, you’re at Disneyland, eating ice cream during a parade, it’s like the most happiest thing ever,” said Feimster, “I keep expecting people to get sick of it. But they don’t. Everytime I post one everyone loves it.”

People have also been going gaga for her impersonation of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea Lately. “People starting tweeting me going you should do that. You would be great,” said Feimster I don’t particularly think they look anything alike and Fortune agrees. “We don’t look anything alike. But when I put that wig on, it works. It’s the voice. As soon as you hear the voice.” I asked Fortune how much of her interaction on Chelsea Lately is improved.  “A lot of it is written but sometimes she comes out with something and just throws me a curve ball,” said Feimster.

Fortune Feimster comes from an improv background so she’s able to take it all in stride. It’s something you can expect to see in her show. “I tend to do a call out and see what comes back. You can kind of see who wants to interact with you at a show. I know some comics like to zero in on people, but I think it works best to talk to the audience and see who wants to be involved,” said Feimster. If you are a fan of her work you can expect to see some of her popular bits on stage but she promises she also likes to mix it up and give people new material.

The string of dates at the Post Office Caberet in Provincetown and kicks off on Saturday Oct 7th and runs nightly through Tuesday Oct 10th. Having several dates in a row is new to Fortune who is looking forward to exploring the Cape. “I came to Cape Cod when I was younger with my mom as part of a road trip,” said Feimster, “so many times when I’m on tour I’m only in town for a day. I’m really excited to spend some time there. We’ll really get to enjoy it.”

Make plans to see Fortune Feimster this October in Ptown. Tickets are $25 and available at Post Office Cabaret website.
