Husband and Wife Pete and Erika Orlandella left city life in Boston to run a winery on Cape Cod 5 years ago and have never looked back.
Cape Cod Winery was founded on Cape Cod in 1994. When Pete and Erika purchased the winery, they worked closely with the former owners before taking over completely. Then they relocated the winery to it’s current location on Ox Bow Road. “The land and farmhouse date back to the 1800’s and was once a prosperous farm which produced a variety of fruits and vegetables, even grapevines at one point,” says Erika.
The wine produced at the winery is uniquely Cape Cod. The grapes used to make the wine are grown on site in East Falmouth. The sun, the soil, and the climate can be tasted each sip. And the types of wines are uniquely Cape specific as well. From the Vineyard Sound to the Nobska Light White. Their fruit wines are big hits too. The winery has become known for its cranberry blush and blueberry wines.
Erika says they couldn’t have done it without the support of others on Cape Cod. “What really surprised me is the sense of community. There are so many people on the Cape involved in agriculture. Everyone is really supportive and really help each other out.” In fact, Erika says other wineries and breweries have recently created a Craft Beverage Tour map, so those visiting one of their locations can explore the others.
Drop In tastings are always welcome at Cape Cod Winery. For $10, patrons can enjoy 5 different wines and receive a take home glass. Larger groups are encouraged to call ahead and will be rewarded with a cheese board.
