YARMOUTH – On Tuesday, August 18, 2015, the Yarmouth Police Department will host the third annual Cape Cod and the Islands “Back to School Shop with a Cop Program.”
The program is geared to students and families who do not have the financial means to cover the costs of clothing and supplies needed to begin the school year.
In an effort to help these youths start the school year off in a positive light, YPD selects students from towns all around Cape Cod to take them shopping for back-to-school clothing. Additionally, each student is provided with a backpack filled with school supplies. Police departments from all over Cape Cod and the Islands participate in the program.
Through this program, students not only get the supplies they need, but also have the opportunity to spend the day with police officers. The goal is to build trust and strong community partnerships between students, their families and police officers. The objective is to empower students to succeed in school, develop good decision-making skills and stand up to bullying.
The Yarmouth Police Department would like to invite everyone to make a donation towards this worthy cause. No amount is too small! Monetary donations can be made in cash or by check made out to the Yarmouth Police Relief Association.
YPD would like to thank all of those who donated in the past and helped make this program a success.
If you know a student who needs a backpack and/or school supplies and is not already part of this program, please contact Officer Diana Wells at the Yarmouth Police Department at [email protected] or at 508.775.0445 extension 2362.
