PROVINCETOWN – Thousands of people descended on Provincetown on a picture perfect Thursday for the annual Carnival Parade. The theme this year was “Back to the 80s.”
Security was tight with Provincetown Police being supplemented by Truro and Wellfleet Police, Barnstable County Sheriff”s Deputies, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s mounted unit and Massachusetts State Police. No major problems were reported. About a half-dozen people were evaluated for possible heat-related disorders. Through early evening only a couple of protective custody actions for public intoxication had occurred.
The crowd was perhaps a bit smaller than years past but all seemed to enjoy the parade which featured a wide variety of floats recalling 80’s memories like MTV and The Love Boat. Plenty of 80’s music filled the street from the passing floats.
Other floats included political candidates, tributes to recent mass shootings including the Pulse shooting in Orlando and a float that called for gun control.
Many organizations marched including the National Park Service from Stonewall National Monument above.
