Snow causes multiple crashes across Cape Cod

CAPE COD – Snow during the morning commute led to multiple crashes and spinouts Thursday morning. In Mashpee, a car and garbage truck collided on Falmouth Road (Route 28) at Meetinghouse Road.

The car ended up under the truck but luckily two people suffered only minor injuries.

The Eastham Fire and Police Departments also received multiple 911 calls for several motor vehicle accidents this morning.

Upon arrival, units determined there to be 3 separate crash scenes approximately ¼ mile apart.

The first accident found a single vehicle into a tree.  The patient was stabilized and extricated from the crash then transported to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The second scene had 6 vehicles in a rear-end chain reaction crash with a total of 9 patients.

Airbag deployment was found in 3 of the vehicles.

The majority of patients were students on their way to school.  This required contact to be made with a parent or guardian.  All patients refused transport to the hospital.

The third crash happened in the high school parking lot when a car slid into a fence causing moderate damage.  The victim was evaluated by a mutual aid Orleans ambulance but refused transport to the hospital. The scene was cleared in approximately 90 minutes.

In Sandwich, a car struck a pole on Service Road. Another crash, also on Service Road in Sandwich, involved two cars head-on (below).

Firefighters had to extricate at least one victim from that crash but no serious injuries were reported.

Chatham Police posted this photo from a crash on Route 137 at Mill Hill Road. There were injuries but luckily not serious.
