HYANNIS – The victim of a homicide in Hyannis on Wednesday has been identified as Darrell Russ, 33, of Hyannis.
In a release Friday afternoon, the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s office said Russ died from three gunshot wounds. No further details regarding motive or suspects were released.
Barnstable Police and a SWAT team responded to 362 Yarmouth Road at 1:16 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting a physical altercation at the scene.
On arrival, Russ was lying on the ground. He died a short time later at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
“The matter remains an ongoing and active investigation by Barnstable Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office,” District Attorney Michael O’Keefe said.
After the shooting, Yarmouth Road was closed at one point between Camp St. and Route 28.
