CENTERVILLE – From COMM FD: Centerville-Osterville -Marstons Mills (COMM) Fire Department responded to a report of a storage shed on fire. While in route to the fire a Barnstable Police Officer arrived on scene and was able to have several vehicles moved to create access to the 10” X 12” building. Further, the officer warned firefighters that a large amount of gasoline and propane was stored in the building.
Upon arrival firefighters discovered the storage shed 25% involved in fire which was spreading to the nearby landscaping. An engine and a ladder truck were used to extinguish the fire, and salvage many of the homeowner’s tools and power equipment. The fire did not spread to the flammable liquids stored in the building. The flammable liquids were removed to the yard without incident.
COMM Fire Prevention Officers investigated the cause of the fire and determined that it was electrical in nature. It took firefighters approximately one hour to extinguish the fire, overhaul the building, salvage the contents and return to quarters. There were no injuries to any firefighters or civilians.
