HARWICH – Harwich Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 20 Freshwater Rd. Tuesday just before 4 p.m. with flames and smoke visible and occupants evacuating.
On arrival of the first Harwich unit, a working structure fire was requested bringing automatic mutual aid from Brewster, Chatham, and Dennis as well as other towns to provide station coverage.
Heavy fire was blowing out of the rear of the 1 car attached garage and spreading rapidly into the sun porch and main living area of the ranch style house.
An aggressive attack was initiated and the active fire was knocked down and extension into the rest of the structure was quickly cut off.
The garage was destroyed and smoke and water damage was reported throughout the structure.
All occupants were safely evacuated and there were no injuries reported.
Roads in the immediate area were closed due to apparatus and hoses in the street. Harwich Police were called to investigate.
Mutual Aid companies were released as overhaul was conducted by Harwich Firefighters and the area was cleared in approximately an hour.
