PROVINCETOWN – A joint investigation by the Provincetown and Truro Police Departments into the Distribution of Heroin in Provincetown resulted in the arrests of Gary Call, 63, (top photo) and Joseph Drenel, 41, (lower photo) both residents of Bradford Street in Provincetown.
Call & Drenel were arrested during a traffic stop at approximately 6 pm on Friday June 12. 2015.
Police detectives attempted to stop the vehicle Call was operating and Drenel was a passenger in at the intersection of Route 6 eastbound and Conwell Street. The vehicle, a 2011 Subaru Legacy sedan, fled through a red light on Route 6 as officers approached and trapped the arm of a police officer inside the car. The officer was dragged for over 100 yards across Route 6 and southbound onto Conwell Street into oncoming traffic.
Drenel ran from the scene and was subsequently apprehended by officers involved in the investigation.
Call was also placed under arrest at the scene.
A search warrant was later executed by detectives and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department at Call’s and Drenel’s Bradford Street residence. Seized during the search were additional drugs; scales; cutting materials; drug paraphernalia; an airsoft pistol with the safety tip painted black; an assortment of military style knives and 5 serrated double edged knives (photo above).
Drenel and Call have been charged with: Possession with the Intent to Distribute Class A, Heroin; Possession with the Intent to Distribute Class B, Cocaine; Possession Class E; Conspiracy to Violate the Controlled Substances Act; Assault & Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon (3 Counts); Armed Assault with Intent to Kill; Failure to Stop for Police and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
Call and Drenel have been ordered held without bail pending their arraignment in the Orleans District Court on Monday.
The Truro Police Officer injured during the arrests was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by ambulance where he was treated and subsequently released.

“Pair facing heroin, cocaine charges after Provincetown bust
PROVINCETOWN – A joint investigation by Truro and Provincetown Police into drug distribution in Provincetown, led to the arrests last night of Gary Call, 63 and Joseph Drenel, 41, both of Provincetown.
As a result of the investigation approximately 5.65 grams of what is believed to be heroin and approximately 13.98 grams of what is believed to be cocaine and approximately $2,400 in cash were located. Various drug paraphernalia was also located and seized.
Call and Drenel were held overnight at the Provincetown Police Facility on $1,000 and $3,000 cash bail respectively.
Both were arraigned today in Orleans District Court, Call was released after posting $500 cash bail and Drenel was ordered held at the Barnstable County House of Correction on $1,000 cash bail.
Both were charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Heroin, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Conspiracy to Violate Controlled Substances Laws.”
