HYANNIS – The Barnstable School Department and Barnstable Police are investigating the discovery of a single bullet in a classroom early Tuesday at the Barnstable Intermediate School in Hyannis. Barnstable Police responded and did a visual search of the room and called in the Plymouth County Sheriff’s office’s ballistic K9 unit to conduct a more complete search. Students were in a different section of the building while the search was taking place and no additional bullets were found. At no time was the school evacuated. Parents were notified via a letter sent to them during the day from school officials regarding the discovery of the bullet. Barnstable Police Sgt. Eric Driftmeyer says Barnstable Police and school officials take the safety of the students very seriously and the discovery of the bullet remains under investigation.
